Poem: Let us hope not! By pantherà

There is only darkness awaiting on the other side.
The walls are painted with the blood of our brothers.

Slaughtered by fellow brothers in Islam

Who halla Allah!

As they drag a dagger over the trachea of another brother.

The Holy Jihad;

They claimed…
Let us hope not.

There is only darkness on the other side.

The walls are painted

With the screams of our sisters

Whose scent of adolescence hangs in the air.

The aftermath of defilement

By our C.Ms and G.Os.

“The gospel must be preached

By all means”,

They said.
Let us hope not.

There is nothing but darkness on the other side

The walls are painted

With the cries of our children

Whose eyes have witnessed more crisis than their young eyes.

Whose ears have become accustomed

To the booms of the Boko bombs.
Let us hope not.

There’s nothing but darkness on the other side

The walls, no!

It’s the streets.

They are littered with dreams of our pedagogical heroes

Who have served prison terms for years

In institutions that have

Mended

Bended

Dented

And forged them

Into weapons

Of mass unemployment….
So, let us hope not.

This candle

Will burn

For a while

Before the darkness

Eats up our light….

Hope not
Hope not
